The Licensed Victuallers School in Ascot, Berkshire is an independent co-educational day and boarding school for 700 pupils aged 4+ to 18.
The school's history stretches back 200 years. The granting of a Royal Charter in 1836 provided the school with Royal patronage which has continued to this day. The school was originally founded by the educational charity The Society of Licensed Victuallers, Kennington Lane, London, but moved subsequently to Slough. In 1989 the school re-located to Ascot into purpose built accommodation, providing some of the most outstanding facilities in the country.
Courses meeting the National Curriculum requirements are taught through the school with a wide range of GCSE, A Level and GNVQ options. All courses from aged 11 are setted by ability and there are between 5 to 7 sets per each year group. The facilities provide greater opportunities for pupils particularly in specialist areas such as theatre and drama work, music and sports. There is a main sports hall together with a movement studio and swimming pool, art & technology centre, 8 science laboratories with many of the classrooms supported by a computer network. The school is set in 26 acres of landscape grounds and offers day boarding and weekly boarding to assist busy families.
Open scholarships and those for society members are available for entry at Year 7, and there are a wide range of 6th form scholarships available. The school offers a discount for Forces and a discount for the third child in the same family. Entry requirements are by school reports and interview.
Throughout the year there are set Open Days and parental tours, however the Headmaster is always pleased to provide individual visits for families at a mutually convenient time.
There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities available, central to this is the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and includes such projects as the Art Club, Craft Design Technology, Sub Aqua, Jazz Band, School Magazine, 2 Junior and 2 Senior Choirs, and a host of sports and musical opportunities.
The Careers Department also provides opportunities for work experience with many companies assisting the school. Those responsible for the houses are particularly supportive in organising industrial visits giving interview training and providing speakers.
Every pupil has the opportunity to visit France, Germany or Spain to take part in foreign language visits or exchanges. There are numerous sporting opportunities and this year the Rugby and Hockey teams will visit South Africa, plus the annual skiing trip will be run.
